It took over a week's wait to get allergy tested, about an hour and a half for the testing and a day to process the experience.
The long awaited verdict:
-I am allergic to pork.
-I am allergic to lamb.
-Like most of the rest of the world, I am allergic to dust mites.
Plus, the doctor suspects Celiac Disease, I am getting the blood drawn for this test on Monday.
The testing experience was a bit of a rude awakening. I felt as though the doctor and the assistant who handled my visit, felt that input from me the patient was sheer pain to their ears. Any logs I kept or reactions I have noticed, unfortunately, became a moot point. Not to mention the fact that 20 seconds of talk is not nearly enough to leave one feeling comfortable standing before three strange men with just a piece of paper between them and my chest.
On the plus side, the doctor did know a lot about his field and offer some interesting facts. First off, I was quickly corrected in assuming that wine has yeast, or at least the fact that causes allergic reactions. Apparently brewer's yeast is very different from baker's yeast. This means that even the yeast containing chicken broth which seemed to have an effect could not have done so through yeast, yet it did also contain dextrin, which can contain wheat.
As for Celiac facts, whether or not that is what's ailing my digestive tract, I was pleased to hear that with the surge in cases over recent years, testing may soon become a standard. He also mentioned that many diseases can actually be symptoms of Celiac.
I am not certain if that is what I have. But oddly enough, just hours before the testing, I indulged in a bit of irresistible pop-over bread at lunch. By the time the meal was over, my stomach was already singing the upset song. So maybe this is it, maybe it is Celiac. And to be honest, I really hope that it is.
I am so tired of IBS suspicions and Acid Stomach diagnoses, I do not want to take a pill for the rest of my life in order to have a working digestive tract. What I believe, is that something in my diet is responsible for the upset, and I hope to find the culprit. I hope to find it is gluten, as I am not sure what to do next if it is not. I suppose I would have to visit a gastroenterologist.
For now I will assume my issues are with gluten, that is after all what I grocery shopped for today!
