Last night, while baking a king cake, I was incredibly good sampling only a half a pinch of praline mixture, and no dough at all. Once the cake was baked, though I did want to taste test the small piece I had baked separately to try. I even semi-psychotically spit it out after enjoying my taste, so that no reactions would follow.
This morning, however, I did straight up eat a small bite. I figured one small bite couldn't possibly do much. A few minutes later I started feeling ill and noticed my chest had become significantly tight. Ok, so maybe it is a delayed reaction to last night's wine, though I had barely half a glass. And what about the obvious, the king cake? What in it could I have reacted to: yeast, gluten, egg, dairy?
Yeast, I feel is unlikely after last night's skin test. Gluten, perhaps. Egg and dairy, I would be pretty surprised if the small amount of one egg per batch or one stick of butter could produce enough in one bite to cause a reaction. However, it seems that asthmatic reactions are seldom linked with Celiac--though constipation is (my problem of the past). I suppose the only way to tell is to "be good" for today and then tomorrow try allowing only gluten of all the food allergies, and see what happens.
